Ningbo Fangli Technology Co., Ltd. is a mechanical equipment manufacturer has over 30 years’ experiences of plastic pipe extrusion equipment, new environmental protection and new materials equipment. Since its establishment Fangli has been developed based on user’s demands. Through continuous improvement, independent R&D on the core technology and digestion & absorption of advanced technology and other means, we have developed PVC pipe extrusion line, PP-R pipe extrusion line, PE water supply / gas pipe extrusion line, which was recommended by the Chinese Ministry of Construction to replace imported products. We have gained the title of “First-class Brand in Zhejiang Province”.

The cooling methods for extruder barrels primarily include air cooling and water cooling, and the appropriate method can be selected based on the actual operating conditions of the equipment.

Air Cooling

The working principle involves using fans to direct airflow across the barrel surface, where the moving air carries away heat from the barrel to achieve cooling. The advantages of air cooling include a simple structure, low cost, and no need for an additional circulating system for cooling media. The system is easy to install and maintain, exhibits strong environmental adaptability, and can operate reliably under relatively harsh conditions. However, its disadvantages are that the cooling efficiency is relatively low, especially when ambient temperatures are high, which can significantly impair the cooling effect. The cooling uniformity of air cooling is inferior to that of water cooling, potentially resulting in uneven temperature distribution along the barrel surface. In addition, fan operation generates considerable noise.

Water Cooling

The working principle involves installing a cooling jacket on the outside of the barrel or embedding cooling channels within the barrel, through which cooling water circulates to absorb heat from the barrel and achieve cooling. The advantages of water cooling are high cooling efficiency—due to water's large specific heat capacity, it can absorb substantial heat and rapidly reduce barrel temperature—and good cooling uniformity. With properly designed cooling channels or jacket structures, the temperature distribution along the barrel surface can be made relatively uniform, which contributes to improved extruded product quality. However, the disadvantages include the need for a dedicated cooling water circulation system comprising pumps, water tanks, piping, etc., resulting in higher equipment investment and operating costs. Water quality requirements are also stringent; poor water quality can lead to scale formation within the cooling channels, impairing cooling performance and potentially causing blockages. Therefore, regular treatment and maintenance of the cooling water are necessary.
