The setting device in the die is the main component in the PE pipe extrusion system. The molten material is cooled on the inner surface of the sizing sleeve to form a solid surface layer to ensure the accurate outer diameter of the pipe. It also ensures the stability and normal traction extrusion of pipes. The state and forming conditions of molten materials in the sizing device not only directly affect the internal and external surface quality of pipes, but also directly determine the stability of the whole extrusion system and the reliability of high-speed production.

Therefore, a good sizing device design meets the following requirements: good thermal conductivity provides sufficient surface cooling of molten materials in a short distance, and the cooling speed can ensure the rapid formation of solid phase skin on the surface of pipes; high wear resistance; the inner surface shall have a higher finish. Different shaping structures can be selected according to different materials, different production speeds and different quality requirements. At present, there are two popular PE pipe sizing devices: cylindrical sizing sleeve; flake combined sizing sleeve. The most widely used of these two shaping devices is the cylindrical sizing sleeve. It has a wide range of applicability and can meet the extrusion die of PE pipes from φ20 to φ630.

For the cylindrical sizing sleeve, the stability and uniformity of the water flow introduced into the water ring directly affect the extrusion quality of the pipe, and the cooling rate of the molten material in the sizing sleeve can directly affect the quality of the inner wall of the pipe. The flake combined sizing sleeve is mainly used for the production of PE pipes with small diameter and high-speed extrusion, and the applicable diameter range is: φ20～φ63mm. According to the pipe diameter and processed materials, the extrusion speed of 35m/min or higher can be achieved.
